Real Estate 101 with Karey Brown

Meet the owner of The Lumber Woman & Co! Tina Klassen started making furniture from a tree that had stood in her front yard for MANY years. The neighbor was truly distraught that the tree had to be removed so Tina also made her neighbor furniture from that same tree. Not all things must end, right? That started Tina on the path to create more and that manifested into the start of The Lumber Woman & Co. Tina takes appointments at her shop located at 1209 N Kansas Ave, Suite A in Topeka KS . She sells slabs of wood and has her own onsite Kiln. In the photos below are just a few pieces she has done. She does custom pieces and plans to carry her own line of epoxy along with teaching classes.

Imagine the Possibilities

Tables are of course not the only thing you can make with wood. Really the list is truly endless. I met Tina on Facebook. My husband and I were designing his office and I thought wouldn’t it be great to use what we do and make it into art. I should probably mention we own Brown’s Tree Service. That lead me on a hunt to learn how to turn wood into art and that put me in a message box on Facebook with The Lumber Woman & Co. Tina knows I have zero desire to be her competition and let me tell you. Tables are a bit of a chore. She is safe from me getting in to her line of work. She has been very gracious in teaching me how to do the tables and they are turning out amazing. I’ll share my journey to the ultimate conference table in another blog. Below are the recordings with Tina to hear her story!

If you have custom pieces you’d like to have done Tina is amazing at what she does. She makes everything from charcuterie boards, fireplace mantels, kitchen counters to tables. If you can imagine it I’d bet Tina can do it. So, what goes into making these masterpieces? There are multiple steps but it starts with a slab of dried wood! Who knew that wood would bust if you used wet wood? Not me. It takes precise measuring and a good eye to get pieces to turn out right.
