I’ve been in Real Estate for many years and I’ve met so many wonderful people and they will tell you they are very specific in their abilities. Some walk into a house and they only see what is there. They typically want a “ready to move in” home. There are those that can see the possibilities of changing colors and some minor changes so a home with minor repairs fit; and then there are those that walk into a house and see how you can completely change the house into exactly what you want. Tammy and her crew are the later. When they bought their family home they saw great bones but it didn’t work for the size of their family so they totally redesigned their home into exactly what they needed. My thoughts are do what you are comfortable with but if the price of a home is right and the location is just right then think outside of the box. Make the house your home! Tammy’s Story:

Shortly after we had our fourth son my husband and I realized we needed room for these little guys to run. There was this perfect little street, tucked right behind the cul-de-sac that we lived on. Each house sat on several acres with huge trees lining the slightly curved road. We purchased our home from the couple who built it 35-years-ago ready to renovate it into an open concept floor plan with a kitchen bar to fit eight.

I poured over the layout and what walls to remove and windows to add, and how we wanted the house to function with our love of hosting. My sister, a gifted architect, and I massaged the design until the home spilled with natural light and room to entertain. I was captured by it all; how home design was this perfect blend of functionality for the way a family lives, but also how you could weave beauty into every detail. Each decision having a domino effect on the next, and what felt overwhelming to others energized me. I knew I wanted to do this for others. To take this overwhelming process, this huge investment, and make the process individualized for them. Walking clients through the questions of what they want out of their remodel while perfectly tailoring the design to fit their personality.

I moved right from gutting my entire home to helping others with theirs. Thiessen Design Co. conceptualizes the design, works on floor plans, and then selects every single detail of the space to make sure it flows and functions in a show-stopping way.

Getting to bring to life what I know a client will love is the most satisfying part of my job. It’s a rare opportunity to have a chance to build a career by helping people create this vision for their home — this space that they can now invite other people into. I just love that aspect of what I do.
